BSB51918 - Diploma of Leadership and Management
A manager's most important, and most difficult job is to manage people – others and self. You must lead, mentor, motivate, inspire, encourage, discipline and evaluate employees. As a manager you have the authority to sanction or restrict most aspects of the working day of your employees. This places you in a position of power and responsibility. Managing people is not simple or easy, however, it can be done successfully and can be a very rewarding experience. Remember that management, like any other skill, is something that you can improve with reflection, study and practice. Read feedback from our previous students!
8/12/2019: "Hi Kerry. I would like to thank you once again for the time and effort you put in to get us all across the line in our studies for the Diploma. You have been an inspiration to me in many ways." KA
“Hi Kerry, Thanks for the feedback. I am actually using a lot of the skills and knowledge from this course in a variety of ways, it has been really helpful. The role I took on earlier this year has seen me use everything I have learned on both the TAE and this Leadership and Management course. It has me considering a career change. Thanks and all the best.” Jacqui
“I have found the Academy to be most supportive and helpful in assisting me to gain this qualification. I would highly recommend both the International Teacher Training Academy and the Diploma of Leadership and Management to Aboriginal managers/supervisors/coordinators who are looking to improve their management and leadership skills.” Janelle Brown – Gurehlgam.
“Hi Kerry, Thank you for flexibility with those dates, I do appreciate it. Most of us are under a rather heavy workload and like many others I was approaching this with dread and anticipated racing through it at a hundred miles an hour just to knock it over. But for the record found it an absolutely fantastic unit. Well written, and with assessments that were equally well-written and fair. It's learning that I really enjoyed and found valuable - so thank you! I've already snaffled a copy of Goleman from a local op shop, and it's on my to-read list, so am looking forward to continuing the journey.” Trav.
“Hi Kerry, Thank you for your email. I am so pleased to have completed my EI unit. I found it very interesting and helpful. Thank you so much for your patience with me as well as for your feedback and thoughts on my assessments. I really appreciate all your thoughtfulness. Thank you also for your recommendations for the books. I will read them as I think this is such a vital subject in the world we live in today, and yet, it is so underutilised in the work environment. Thanks again for all your help Kerry! Have a great day!” Kind Regards, Steve.
“Kerry, This activity has given me some insights about my unknown self and some confidence of my intellectual capabilities. My colleagues have portrayed me to be smart and intelligent. I’m a modest person and do not believe in self-praise. Most of the time I underestimate my intelligence and capabilities. Due to my modesty I am self-conscious and at times feel tense to attempt new tasks. Now I have confidence in my ability and intelligence to move forward in my life and career. I know I am a friendly and helpful person. I normally do not wait for others to seek help from me but am always willing to offer help to others. Thank you so much.” KN
“Hello Carolyn, Kerry and Chris. I wish to thank you for providing such excellent training and guidance for professional development. I am very grateful for your support in passing on your knowledge and wisdom for the TAE and Diploma of Leadership and Management PD. You are a fantastic team at ITTA International Teacher Training Academy Australia.” MT
BSB51918 | Trainer's Diary
Class Updates, Highlights and Success Stories
Had a fabulous day today with my Grafton group. One of the students brought her two friends from Hong Kong and England to the workshop to allow the class to interview them. This provided a wonderful opportunity for the class to learn about and gain appreciation of other cultures. The learning gained from this interaction is truly wonderful and it is marvelous to see each student’s understanding grow as they gain knowledge of the differences and the feelings shared. After the interviews where conducted, I was delighted when one of my students remarked “if I ever see an Asian person sitting alone in a pub I am going to go up and chat to them” this is what the learning is all about. Lesson learnt and put into action. (Kerry Hall)
I was thrilled to hear one of my students was successful in obtaining a promotion this week, especially as we had recently been working on negotiation skills in the unit BSBLDR503 Communicate with influence. As part of the unit, the students must learn to negotiate, present, and mediate. To prepare the student for his upcoming interview, we contextualised the negotiation task a little and used it to have a practice interview. I would like to think that this practical learning gave the student that extra confidence and skills to demonstrate to the panel his ability to step up to the management level. A great achievement! (Kerry Hall).
Recently, one of my students provided feedback as part of a speech she prepared for one of her assessment tasks. It is so rewarding as a Trainer and Assessor to know that the learning we are providing is absolutely relevant and that it is not only meeting industry needs but it is truly making a difference. Here is what she says:
I am currently in the process of completing a diploma in Leadership and Management with the International Teacher Training Academy. The purpose of completing this course is to:
- Gain a Diploma in Leadership and Management
- Broaden my knowledge and understanding of the skills needed to become a leader and manager
As I am currently working, this Diploma will give me the skills to help progress further in my career. I wish to one day become a Team Leader within the department and potentially work my way up to a General Manager. This Diploma will give me extra knowledge in the industry and will potentially put me ahead of other candidates who wish to gain a new position in the workplace.
Not only will this Diploma help me advance in my career, but it will also give me the necessary skills needed to perform better in my current role. I can now better assist my team and offer valuable support and feedback to my team with the skills I have obtained. Due to being younger, I feel that this Diploma will benefit me tremendously in the future as all the skills I have gained can be applied to any role or position in any organisation.
Upon starting this Diploma, I was not motivated to complete the topics in a timely manner. However once I gained a further understanding of each topic, I became more eager to complete each topic, as I wanted to learn more and more.
I had originally set up a timeline which I was supposed to follow to complete my course. Due to everyday life demanding my time, I fell behind this schedule. After serious contemplation, I came up with another study plan that was realistic to suit my lifestyle, which helped ensure that I would finishing each topic in a timely manner.
This plan consists of doing one hour of learning in the mornings before work at least one day a week and then I complete just 30 minutes of assessment tasks during Monday to Friday. This has allowed me to progressively complete my tasks in an efficient way and ensures I am not just rushing each assessment to get handed in on time. I am extremely lucky that I am in a position in my workplace where I am allowed to apply my skills I have learned in a real life environment. My organisation also has an entire site dedicated to policy documents and procedures which allowed me to use them as guides in helping understand and complete some assessment tasks. Although my team leader has been extremely understanding of my educational needs, there are always unforeseen obstacles that come in the way of completing this diploma. A recent situation occurred and I had to put my Diploma studies on hold to ensure my job security. I was given the ultimatum of applying to be a full time employee or risk losing my job entirely. This caused a serious panic in my life and made me focus on getting this position. I did not know it at the time, but having this qualification helped secure my position in the department as it showed my initiative to better my skills and knowledge.
Overall I feel like this Diploma has helped me achieve so many goals already. This is my first study since completing High School and I feel privileged to have such helpful trainers to assist with any questions to ensure I understand each topic properly.
I would highly recommend this course, as it is great value for the money that you pay. It teaches you valuable skills in communication, discipline, negotiation and much more. Not only can this course help you in your workplace but it can also be incorporated into your everyday lifestyle and how you approach situations.
In conclusion, I would just like to say that all the trainers at the International Training Academy are extremely helpful and encouraging. They are so passionate about helping others that it reflects in the type of work you do and how you learn.
Today saw the commencement of a new Diploma of Leadership and Management group in Inverell on the 5th of October. What a fabulous group they are. The Community College at Inverell is providing the training room so that we can offer this training to the local community. Looking forward to the next workshop and visiting the lovely people at Inverell again.
