Keeping Your Workplace Safe – Your Role in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)

Work Health and Safety (WHS) is about keeping everyone safe at work. In your role, you may not be a safety expert, but you still have an important part to play in following and supporting WHS rules and procedures.

You might help by following workplace safety policies, reporting hazards, and making sure work areas are safe and tidy. You may also need to pass on safety information to others or let your supervisor know if something doesn’t look safe. These actions help prevent accidents and keep the workplace running smoothly.

Sometimes you will need to look at information such as safety procedures, incident reports, or instructions from your organisation. This helps you understand what is required and how to solve small problems before they become bigger issues.

Good WHS practice is about being aware, speaking up, and following instructions. By doing this, you help create a safe and positive workplace for yourself and your team.

Following WHS policies and procedures, even for simple everyday tasks, is important because it helps keep everyone safe and prevents accidents before they happen. Small tasks can still lead to injuries if risks aren’t managed properly. It also ensures the workplace promotes a culture where safety is taken seriously by everyone.
