“All the discussion of Australia slipping in education rankings is just hot air unless you raise standards. The countries that do best have high university entry for teachers and that is what we are doing here……”
Mr Piccoli also rejected claims that universities use a range of measures to select candidates for teacher education courses.
“I am yet to hear of a university knocking back an applicant.”
