Manage People Performance
People management can arguably be considered as a manager’s primary purpose. Teams and individuals perform the day to day tasks that contribute to the operations of the organisation. They need a manager to facilitate the process. In other words, a manager may not have any direct “productive” role within the organisation.
A manager’s team can be considered in this light as the manager’s customers. The manager provides a service to the team which enables them to work efficiently and achieve the goals of the organisation. In order to facilitate the team, the manager needs to:
- Develop work plans and allocate tasks
- Develop performance plans and KPIs
- Monitor and measure performance
- Resolve issues which prevent performance targets being achieved
- Promote harmony and co-operation within the team
- Motivate and support the team
- Act as a role model for the team
- Know the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals in the team
The success of a manager hinges on communication.
